Paranormal Terminology

Apparition~ The visual manifestation of a Spirit or Ghost.

Audible Disembodied Voice~ Audible disembodied voices are voices with no rational or natural explanation that you are able to hear with the human ear.

Cold Spot~ Any pocket of cold air that has no natural entry point. (Usually correlates to a Spirit entering a room or attempting to manifest in some way, whether it's visual, audible, non-audible or olfactory)

Disembodied Voice~ A voice with no physical body and defies natural or rational explanation. Usually a paranormal occurrence which may or may not be audible to the human ear.

Exorcism~ The expulsion of a Ghost, Spirit, Demon or other entity, in a location or possessing a human being. Usually a Religious ritual.

E.V.P. (Electronic Voice Phenomenon)~ This phenomenon is the ability to record disembodied voices which are not audible to the human ear. The recording devices range from cell phones, digital voice recorders, tape recorders, video cameras w/ audio, etc.

E.V.P. Session~ (See also E.V.P.) During an investigation one of the most popular ways of documenting paranormal activity is to use a digital voice recorder or other recording device and speak to any "spirits" that may be in the investigation location. The Session can contain questions, statements, or any other type of verbal conversation, which in turn may yield a response from the "spirits". We have been known to get responses to our conversations that do not have any direct relation to the location or the people in it.

Ghost~ The Spirit of a person who is deceased. (Also called a Spirit.)

Ghost Hunt~ An informal gathering with the intent to experience or document paranormal activity.

Haunt/ Haunted/ Haunting~ The ability of Spirits to remain or return to the same location.

Manifest or Manifestation~ The act of a Spirit or Ghost to materialize whether it's visual, audible, non-audible, or olfactory.

Medium~ A human being with the ability to contact Spirits.

Orb(s)- In the digital camera age there are so many pictures with those hazy multicolored round "orbs" that many thought them to be a type of manifestation of spirits (see picture below). Many of these "orb" like circles however are different types of fine particulates. Dust, dirt, bugs, moisture, etc. True orbs are bright light anomalies that are usually seen by the naked eye. There will be no doubt if you have gotten a photograph of a true orb because you will have seen it! Unfortunately there are so rarely pictures of true orbs we do not utilize them as paranormal evidence.

Paranormal~ Something that is beyond the range of normal or natural explanation or scientific explanation.

Paranormal Investigation~ A formal planned and enacted project to research, document, and gain knowledge of paranormal occurrences in specific locations that have known activity or wish to know if they have paranormal activity.

Sensitive~ A person that is capable of sensing the presence of a Spirit/ Ghost, etc. of which is not sensed by the regular 5 senses.
